KINGFISHER BLUE

KINGFISHER BLUE interprets China’s national cultural memory in three dimensions. We collaborate with authoritative institutions from the global high-end jewelry industry in the East and West, top-tier jewelry brands, leading designers, art museums, professional schools, academic research institutions, and professionals from various countries to focus on the millennium-old ancient oriental high-end jewelry craft of “Kingfisher Feather Artistry” in China.
This initiative marks the beginning of the “Treasures of China” trilogy plan, starting with “Kingfisher Blue”, followed by “Filigree Inlay”, and “Enamel”. Through the medium of artistic imagery, the project documents and deeply analyzes China’s millennium-old historical and cultural heritage, the continuity, replacement, development, and artistic inheritance of ancient oriental high-end jewelry craftsmanship, contributing a brilliant chapter to the history of world jewelry art that belongs to China’s beauty.

A BLUE LEGEND UNIQUE TO CHINA

“Kingfisher Feather Artistry”, an irreplaceable blue legend in the history of world jewelry art, has a history of over 2400 years. For thousands of years, “Kingfisher Feather Artistry” has been the most important and luxurious adornment for ancient Chinese royal and noble women.
The production team, with the world’s only in-depth research on “Kingfisher Feather Artistry” as the international DAN story base, delves into the essence of “Kingfisher Feather Artistry”, exploring cultural themes in China and various countries such as the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. It presents the unique, irreplaceable artistic, historical, narrative, international, and controversial aspects of “Kingfisher Feather Artistry”, highlighting its significance in ancient Chinese high-end jewelry craftsmanship.

EXPLORE FOR FUTURE

In 1933, the market for kingfisher feathers collapsed, leading to the closure of the last kingfisher feather workshop in China. The art of “Kingfisher Feather Artistry” was lost, replaced by “cloisonné” during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, continuing the traditions of “filigree and enamel”. In 2013, the kingfisher was listed as an endangered species on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, becoming a nationally protected species in China.

Lorenz Bäumer

Artistic Director of High-End Jewelry for Louis Vuitton

You know I always look at jewelry as being a very creative, imaginative process. I also want to be able to express how important it is to have something creative and to make like a work of arts around a piece of jewelry. A lot of labor, a lot of very interesting things are being put in. When you see it in the windows, you don’t always realize all of these. So Cici made these come all alive in her movie.

Stanislas de Quercize

President & CEO, Van Cleef & Arpels

You have done something unique, something that has never been done before. You did it very well, and I hope you can continue to persevere. I will do my best to help you.

Didier Brodbeck

Editor-in-Chief of DREAMS (Paris, France)

I would like to thank Cici for giving me my first real TV experience. Cici and her team showed really, really nice and profession.
For the first part of the ‘Designers’ series, producer Cici chose the French jewelry as its theme. That wasthe start – but not the end – of the luck.
The team’s visit was an incredible moment in my career as a journalist. First and foremost, the pride Ifelt in being able to open the doors to the world’s greatest luxury jewelry houses as well as being able to enter into the intimacy of creators’ ateliers, was second to none.
It’s my hope that Chinese viewers will share our passion and that many will discover the art that contributes to the prestige of France and makes it truly the land of luxury.

Bruno Bisson

Consul General of the French Consulate in Guangzhou, China

This event shows the encounter of two worlds. Cici has come to France to discover the Place Vendôme. Famous gentlemen, specialists, artists, I don’t know how to describe them have come to China. I would be delighted and honorable to be the guest host if Cici and her team pay an interview shooting in France next time.
